Hi Terry, you incorrigible old engineer :o)
1. Research does not need to start with functional aims, often the most
valuable scientific research has flowed from blue sky inquiry.
2. But in this case my question was prompted by research into the design
of learning materials and the ways that craftspeople learn. It seems to
be something worth understanding that might help us do two very relevant
things:
2a. Design effective aids to learning, and possibly effective ways of
constructing opportunities to learn.
2b. Understand how craftspeople and designers, insofar as many designers
are craftspeople in their different ways, learn to do good work.
best wishes
Chris
