The interesting thing about this question is that we don't properly
understand passion in the terms that you have set out, but the term
seems to describe something that I and others have observed in
designing, making and learning.
For me that's enough to make it interesting and a subject worth
inquiring into. All worthwhile research involves what Polanyi called a
"further shore". He meant something that we perceive through our tacit
understanding, borne of experience, to be worthwhile, likely to be true,
"beautiful" in some ways, but incapable of being reached by reasoning at
present. If, when we have worked on it, there is not a more "reasonable"
description available then it was a faulty intuition but it's all we
have to go on when we set out.
