Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Studentship Opportunities 2009/10
Cardiff University welcomes applications for postgraduate programmes
in the Arts and Humanities from applicants who wish to apply for
studentships offered by the Arts and Humanities Research Council
(AHRC).
The AHRC has changed the way in which it provides funding to
postgraduate students in the arts and humanities. Candidates at
Cardiff University will be able to apply for AHRC postgraduate
studentships via one of two routes: a new scheme of Block Grant
Partnerships (BGPs) with Universities, or a new Studentship
Competition for candidates at Universities which do not have
studentships available under the Block Grant Partnership scheme.
Cardiff University submitted an application for a BGP in September
2008 which, if successful, will allow the University to offer AHRC
postgraduate studentships over a 5-year period. The AHRC will inform
the University of the outcome of its bid in late February 2009. If the
University is not awarded a BGP, applicants may submit an application
through the AHRC Studentship Competition.
Funding and Eligibility
Most AHRC postgraduate studentships fall into one of three
competitions: a Doctoral Competition, a Research Preparation Master’s
Competition and a Professional Preparation Master’s Competition.
Applications must be relevant to the AHRC’s subject remit. If the
University is awarded a BGP, AHRC Postgraduate Studentships will be
offered at Cardiff for the subject areas included in the BGP award.
AHRC postgraduate studentships provide full-awards (UK/EU tuition fees
plus a maintenance stipend at nationally-agreed levels) to UK and EU
candidates who meet UK residency criteria; other EU candidates may be
eligible for a fees-only award. Applicants must have gained an
undergraduate degree from a recognised university, or be a current
undergraduate expecting to graduate before 31 July 2009. Those
applying for a doctoral award should normally have, or be studying
for, a Master's degree.
Full information on AHRC residency and academic criteria is available
