Hello,
I am a new subscriber to MASSOBS, having just discovered it via Simon
Garfield`s excellent book.
I am appalled by by the current thinking on the use/misuse of the apostrophe -
it seems to be " If in doubt, leave it out!!" Why can`t English grammar be
taught properly these days? Or indeed ANY kind of grammar. I remember
conjugating French verbs for five years before I was allowed to be considered
good enough to sit French "O" Level. Nowadays it seems to have dwindled to
mere conversational French, just enough to get by on a daytrip. And as for
poor English grammar, that seems to have been reduced to textspeak. Let us
all sing out for our dear apostrophe or it will be lost for ever.
What do other subscribers think ? I`d love to know.
