Inkscape is confusing in this regard. We installed Inkscape 0.46 under
Linus where it appears to offer Postscript import but not PDF import. The
postscript import function does not seem to work at least with CCPN files,
and our attempts at using pstoedit to get things into .svg format (that is
essentially the standard that Inkscape seems to be mostly aimed at) are
'fragile' at best. Interestingly Inkscape under Windows seems to be like
the Mac in that is offers PDF import but not Postscript.

PDF file. I'm not sure what half the options mean (media box, crop box,
trim box, bleed box, art box) but I tried media box and although I can't
tell for 100% sure it seemed to do the clipping. So when I didn't use
"clip to" I eventually saw contours outside the box when I ungrouped
objects enough, and that didn't seem to happen with the "clip to"
option.
This option is in the PDF import of Windows version, and I will try this out
when I get a chance. Given we use CCPN under Linux, it would be great to
sort this but maybe the 0 in 0.46 means we should be wary!
