Yes, cow horns were used as funnels to load powder into carbide lamps. I have one that I got many years ago when I was a geologist evaluating Wadley, an antimony mine in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Wadley, I was told, was original operated by Cookson-on-Tyne.
