While in one sense a shot for shot remake I think we must not loose
sight of the importance of performance. Rather than just an English
language version of the 'same' film, the use of different actors for the
leads radically changes its meaning as well as its reception. Having
Tim Roth as the father in particular, an actor with major roles in
Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs (as a victim of violence) and Pulp Fiction
(as a perpetrator), is in some senses even more shocking/effective. -
