Introducing the New York Academy of Medicine Section on Evidence Based
Health Care (SEBHC)
The New York Academy of Medicine Section on Evidence Based Health Care was
formally established on January 14, 2009, having transitioned from an
Evidence Based Emergency Medicine Working Group based at the Academy. The
Group was established 12 years ago and has run a series of workshop
activities which have been attended by participants in multiple specialties
from all over the world. Our collaborations have extended widely within and
without emergency medicine and the Group has also developed innovations such
as an electronic teaching adjunct, a workshop evaluation project, and most
recently a sister project involving a conceptualized design for practice
based teaching and learning of EBM that has been led by our Brazilian
collaborator, Dr. Suzana Alves da Silva.
In tandem with our expanded perspective, we are currently in the process of
laying preparations to file for public funding of an innovative series of 3
workshops which will add training in KT and guideline development to an
enhanced approach to evidence-based individual decision making. The first of
these workshop will take place August 12-14, 2009. The 3-year design will
seek to pave new ground in EBM-related training initiatives aimed at
realized effectiveness in improving care. It will be open and marketed
widely to participants in multiple specialties.
The Section members are very excited about this milestone in our work in New
York and look forward to being able to share developments and consequences
with anyone who may be interested in our activities. Our current website
(www.ebem.org) is also about to undergo a transition to reflect our new
status and scope. We welcome your responses and inputs.
Peter Wyer on behalf of the NYAM EBEM Working Group, our friends and
collaborators.
