I have also been following the discussion on epistemology with great interest.
As a veterinary surgeon who is currently undertaking a PhD looking at how
veterinary surgeons use evidence to support their clinical decision making I
have found this discussion both facinating and very relevant.
In the veterinary field we need to take a very broad view of evidence as we
have few published randomised controlled trials and even fewer systeamtic
reviews, and the way that our research is funded means that the situation is
unlikely to change significantly in the forseeable future. Therefore the use of
the term "evidence" in its broadest sense of grounds for believe - is exactly
what we are talking about.
