Hey Nicola,
Check out Derrida's TRUTH IN PAINTING and MEMOIRS OF THE BLIND. The frame is very much what they're about.
Happy Year of the Ox!

Subject: Theory of the frame
Hi,
I'm doing some work for my Art & Design course on the notion of the 'frame' in art. Now, I'm familiar with 'framing' i.e. of the shot but this I think seems a bit different. I'm thinking it's more like the actual 'frame' with painting. Can anyone give me some ideas as to which theorists have dealt with the subject of the actual frame please rather than th composition/framing of the shot? I'm actually thinking about going down the route of 'expanded/live' cinema in which case the notion of the frame is pretty much turned on its head but I need to do some research into ideas of the frame first.
Many Thanks
Nicola
