It rather depends on what you take the subject to be. Repsher's book is a
study of a single church consecration rite of the 8th/9th century, and a
contemporary (9th-century) treatise about it, and shows its origins in a
late 6th-century baptismal rite (and its place in the Carolingian church).
The worst that could be said about the book is that (with a lot of editing)
it would make a good journal article.
