Lecturer in Visual Arts (First Year Coordinator)
Sydney College of the Arts
University of Sydney
New South Wales, Australia
Reference No. 146618
Sydney College of the Arts (SCA) is currently seeking a highly
talented and motivated artist to be appointed as a Level B Lecturer to
our undergraduate and postgraduate students.
SCA offers innovation in Visual Arts education. It is 'research led',
which means research conducted by the school influences teaching from
first year level onwards in a studio-based program. SCA is one of only
a handful of Australian schools that educates this way. Additionally,
the school is highly resourced. The environment is focused and
personal. Students and researchers alike find it a fantastic learning
space.
The successful candidate will enjoy responsibility for teaching
undergraduate students and supervising postgraduate and honours
students, for maintaining a research profile and for attracting
external research funds. You will conduct practical and workshop-based
classes, within the contextual framework of your discipline. You will
collaborate with teams to push the boundaries of your particular
fields and strive to introduce innovative approaches to the studio
practice and at the same developing the College's curricula. In order
to harness leadership potential for SCA, this position will also
involve all administrative responsibilities as the First Year
Coordinator in the Bachelor of Visual Art degree. This role is taken
up on a rotational basis by academics and would form part of the
successful applicant's role for their first three years at SCA.
To succeed in the position, the chosen individual will need to have
technical skills and an extensive profile of research outcomes, likely
to reflect a practice-led base. The successful candidate will be an
accomplished, versatile artist with relevant teaching experience,
expertise in their discipline and its concepts, in addition to the
broader critical issues of contemporary visual art.
This is an opportunity to work as an artist-academic for one of the
most highly regarded art schools in Australia and the region. The
right individual will see this as an opportunity to be an active part
of something innovative and to contribute to the future of
contemporary visual art in Australia.
For reasons of availability, the chosen individual will need to live in Sydney.
The position is full-time continuing, subject to the completion of a
satisfactory probation and/or confirmation period for new appointees.
The First Year Coordinator administrative responsibility is based on a
three-year term appointment by the Dean.
Remuneration package: A$88,465 - A$105,052 pa (which includes a base
salary Lecturer Level B A$74,755 - A$88,771 pa, leave loading and up
to 17% employer's contribution to superannuation).
