Zayed University
Anticipated Faculty Openings for August 2009
College of Communication and Media Sciences

The University
Want to make a difference with your teaching and research?  Zayed
University may be the place.  The premier university in the United
Arab Emirates, Zayed University is an exciting and innovative
institution.  It has about 150 faculty and 1600 students on each of
its campuses in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.  Zayed University graduates
bilingual students who are global in their thinking and equipped to
become leaders of their country and role models in the Arab world.
The University features interdisciplinary and integrative pedagogy and
incorporates extensive use of educational technology.  The principal
language of instruction is English. Though primarily an undergraduate
institution, Zayed University is expanding its graduate programs.
Faculty responsibilities include teaching, research, and community
service and outreach.

The University seeks teaching scholars who hold a graduate degree
(doctoral preferred), or a terminal degree relevant to the teaching
area, from a recognized university in the area of appointment and who
are creative and flexible.  Candidates must provide evidence of
excellence in teaching and scholarship.  International experience is a
plus.  Love of adventure isn't required but helps.  Rank and salary
are open.

The College
The College of Communication and Media Sciences offers a comprehensive
program of study providing students opportunities to develop their
communication skills and preparing them to play important professional
leadership roles in the UAE.  Studies lead to a B.S. in Communication
and Media Sciences with concentrations in a variety of areas:
advertising, public relations, tourism, film, broadcast, magazine, and
multi-media journalism.  Communication marketing is accredited by the
International Advertising Association.  An MA in Tourism Communication
is expected to begin in early 2009.  For more details about the

The Opportunity
We are particularly interested in candidates who want to be part of a
dynamic program with aspirations to contribute significantly to the
development of media and marketing communication in the UAE and the
region and to become an international leader in communication and
media studies.  Successful candidates will have a dedication to the
principles of liberal learning, a commitment to curricular innovation,
and a record of professional and academic accomplishment appropriate
to their rank.  Zayed University seeks faculty members who can offer
high quality teaching in their particular field of communication /
media while contributing to interdisciplinary courses in the core
curriculum.  Female and/or Arabic-speaking candidates are particularly
encouraged to apply.

The Requirements
Successful candidates should have a graduate or terminal degree.
Preference will be given to those with a doctoral degree and
significant professional experience in the following areas or closely
related fields:

    * Communication with experience teaching such courses as
interpersonal communication, public speaking, organizational
communication and intercultural communication.
    * Media Production in the areas of print and new media.
Successful candidates will have backgrounds in one or more of the
areas of journalism, magazine, photojournalism, electronic media, and
radio as well as a second teaching specialty such as law and ethics,
intercultural communication, or graphics design.
    * Public Relations and Advertising with special events and tourism
as preferred areas.

Highly desirable for all positions are professional teaching
experience, experience teaching students who speak and write in
English as a second language and qualifications to teach several
subjects.  All candidates are expected to have baccalaureate level
teaching experience and active research or creative endeavors that
meet international standards of scholarship.
