Your question is a really good one. I think there is a difference between
needs and wants/desires. A need is something that when it is recognized the
users feel the urgency to fulfill it...I feel comfortable saying that a
recognized need become a "must have"...users look for it in product and
services while a want/desire is something that they are interested in but it
is more a "nice to have".
But if we compare "latent wants/desires” and "latent needs” I am not sure
that the difference could be so clear, especially because the "latent
condition” makes them hard to distinguish from each other therefore both of
them could be very similar. The interest of design in "latent needs"
assessment is due to the fact that those needs lead more often to
breakthrough and innovations. I think that "latent wants/desires" could be
effective as well.
That being said, answering your question, Yes I am interested on definition
about "latent wants/desires".
