And surely some of the scene - some of its shots/inserts - is done on a set?
I love the 're-enactment' of this scene by Vincent Gallo in Kusturica's ARIZONA
DREAM, a beautiful illustration of the 'imaginary spaces' (geographic and
otherwise) created by cinema: while Gallo, in his mind, is inhabiting Cary
Grant's/Hitchcock's fantastic action-packed drama, to the spectators in the
'amateur night' hall he appears to be mainly standing and occasionaly making a
dive into a couple of nearby derisory potplants.
This film is a negelected classic, I am waiting for the 6 hour director's cut!
(Including, the rumour goes, some material directed by Jerry Lewis when Emir
stormed off for a while.)
