I know it's not Friday yet but I must share this one with you.
I have recently audited POCT undertaken in our local GP surgeries. This was illuminating to say the least, and will be written up as a paper.
One comment (amongst many!) that really got me came from a practice where they use a Coaguchek S to measure INR.
Q. Do you take part in any external quality assurance scheme for INR?
A. No
Q. Do you send citrated blood samples to the laboratory to check your INR result if it is unexpected or out-of-range?
A. No but if I am in doubt I test my own blood - I know I am normal and the reference range is so huge anyway.
Well that's all right then.
