Dear All
We are delighted to see that Caroline's letter features in today's Guardian
- see
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2008/oct/27/olympics-2012-iain-sinclair
The Times has not the letter Caro sent to them, but we have posted the
letter (slightly amended) in the comments box at the relevant piece which we
used as a base for our comments - so far this does not appear to have been
published as an online comment. The section is:

about the Olympics
I really do agree with you, Frances, and so do all the CILIP HQ staff and
Councillors I've talked to about it so far. Council leader Caroline
Moss-Gibbons has sent a stiff letter to the Times, and another to the
Guardian, on the subject: let's see if these actually get published!
As Caro says, not giving Sinclair a platform is a more controversial
decision than giving him a platform would have been.
CILIP continues to be committed in the support of freedom of expression and
debate, and I think we all deplore Hackney Council's stance. Access should
not be restricted on any grounds except that of the law.

surely we do still have the freedom of speech, cant we get totally annoyed
about the huge charade of the Olympics, the drugs, the insincerity, the waste
and the cost of it all, without being banned from a library, which should be
all about freedom of access to information and freedom to speech (within the
limits of sensible comment i.e. not racist etc)
The area sounds very evocative and reminiscent of Dickens.
