Hi Sarah
I have only captured polygons as defined by the NMR downloads available for our HER (available at http://services.english-heritage.org.uk/NMRDataDownload/ not the Gateway).
For all designated sites I have taken the view that the we would only use the data from EH or other Designating Authority (for eg Conservation areas, we use LPA provided data where available, and our digitisations if not).
This is on the basis that its Someone Elses Problem to decide these boundaries if there is any issue about them (at least at the moment) and therefore our data is indicative only.
It also saves any issue of getting into a potentially embarrassing situations of having the wrong area digitised, as our data is derived from someone Elses data, and you can pass the buck back to them....
As noted, there are some issues with the LB data you can download, but the polygons are pretty good, though from my limited experience very few have been done.
There are over 12000 LB's in the area I am covering, of which about 200 were polygonised last time I checked. All the polygons were for Grade I and II* buildings, but I am not sure all of those were done.
hope that helps
best wishes

Dear all,
I have just been searching through the indexes of the list to see if a
discussion had already taken place on this issue but haven't been able
to find much!
Has anyone out there digitised their listed buildings? It has been done
here in North Somerset (a few years ago so well before my time!) however
there does not seem to have been any sort of agreement of how it should
have been done. I say this because we have some pretty large areas
depicted as listed buildings because whole Estates have been digitised
rather than the listed building. This has caused some confusion over
what is listed and what is probably curtilage listed.
I currently do not have responsibility for the layer but eventually we
are hoping to transfer responsibility of it to the HER. The layer
clearly needs work done to it, if only to add the more recent listings
we've had and ensure everything is on there. However there are differing
opinions as to what should be digitised. Land Charges and Planning
appear to want the curtilage digitised whilst from a Conservation point
of view this is almost impossible to define.
So, after all that gumpf what I'm actually asking is, has anyone
digitised it and how did you do it? I'm hoping to come to some sort of
decision with the rest of the HE team before we go to GIS and try to
start sorting out the layer and any examples I can use to discuss would
be useful.
Many thanks
Sarah
