Can Statisticians and Mathematicians Play Poker?
This competition provides an opportunity for students, researchers and
professionals from all over the UK to come together for a day of fun as well
as being a chance to socialise, network and (of course) compete with other
people working or studying in mathematics and statistics.
Poker is a game packed with probability, calculated odds and educated risk,
so surely statisticians would make the most naturally gifted players? Well
to find out, we are delighted to announce the first UK Maths and Stats Poker
Championship, sponsored by ATASS Sports. The tournament will be held in
Birmingham on the 29th November 2008 and is open to all UK based
statisticians and mathematicians currently studying or working in a
mathematical or statistically-related field.
Entry is completely free and all entrants are in with a chance to win the
£1000 first prize! There are plenty of other prizes and medals to be won, so
why not visit the tournament website for further event information and
registration details? The tournament is limited to just 150 players, so
don't delay register now!
