JOB SUMMARY / MAIN PURPOSE:
To build statistical capacity within the Clinical Research Support  
Centre team to ensure that the Centre can advise on and conduct high  
quality clinical research in partnership with researchers in NI, UK  
and elsewhere.

Main Duties/Responsibilities
1.	Contribute to the provision of advice to researchers in the design,  
analysis and reporting of clinical research protocols.
2.	Develop statistical analysis plans and conduct statistical analyses  
under the direction of a senior statistician
3.	Use a variety of Statistical software packages and general office  
systems
4.	Adhere to all relevant standard operating procedures
5.	Develop and maintain efficient communications with members of  
clinical research teams
6.	Liaise with other CRSC staff in the specification, management,  
quality control, entry and analysis of data and archiving, as required  
by investigators and sponsors.
7.	Write and submit progress reports to Funders, Study oversight  
committees and Sponsors
8.	Contribute to the delivery of appropriate CRSC training programmes  
for investigators in the design and conduct of clinical research.
9.	Disseminate knowledge of the CRSC among investigators and sponsors  
of clinical research, by means of the website and other appropriate  
channels.
10.	The post holder will be encouraged to develop his/her own research  
portfolio, including making a contribution to the development of  
clinical research methodology, where possible.
11.	The post holder will be expected to develop their knowledge and  
skills in their area of expertise through formal training programmes  
and continuing professional development activities.
12.	Other administrative duties may be assigned from time to time by  
the director or senior statistician.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
1. BSc (Hons) at 2.1 or above in Statistics or Mathematics with  
Statistics.
AND
2. A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the application of statistical  
methods in an academic, statutory or health service environment
3. Supervisory experience
4. Ability to demonstrate practical use of information technology  
systems, in particular a variety of statistical software applications  
and Microsoft office packages including Word, PowerPoint and Excel, e- 
mail and internet
5. Possess good organisational and administrative skills
6. Ability to communicate effectively (both orally and written) with  
professional and non-professional staff within the health service and  
external agencies
7. Demonstrate an ability to manage workload effectively
8. Ability to lead and to work as part of a team
9. Willingness to travel
10. Willingness to work flexibly to meet the needs of the job

DESIRABLE CRITERIA:
1. Higher Postgraduate qualification in Statistics
2. Chartered statistician status
3. Experience in the conduct of clinical trials or epidemiological  
research
4. Generation of research ideas as evidenced by success in grant  
applications and publication in peer reviewed journals
5. Experience of teaching at tertiary education level
6. Experience in staff management and budgeting
7. Sound knowledge of both national and local clinical research  
legislation including Good Clinical Practice Guidelines and research  
governance
8. Possess a clean driving licence
