medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
We get a pair of spurs, apparently, and a couple taps with a sword, but no horses involved. I have not, however, over looked the fact that in the 1487
charter induction into the Order gave a knight the right to ride a horse into church. . . a right sadly lost in the revisions under Pius IX et al.
I think I read that Benedict XV dropped the bit about fighting the infidel. I soooo wanted to fight the infidel too. ;-))
I actually knew that about the Jerusalem cross and the coat of arms. I didn't know that bit about the hanging from a ribbon, etc. I suspect I'm going to learn
a lot about heraldry in the near future. . .
