Hi Emma,
The early Anglo-Saxon dogs from West Stow are relatively large and straight
limbed, but the roman dog that was recovered from one of the pottery kilns
at the site was shorter and much more bow-legged.

Subject: [ZOOARCH] Variation in Mid-Late Saxon dogs
Dear all,
I wondered if anyone could suggest any references on morphological variation
in British dogs in the Anglo-Saxon and early medieval periods please? I
already
have Harcourt's 1974 paper which covers this period but would be grateful
for
suggestions of any other relevant papers. I'm particularly interested in
'bow-
legged' varieties if there is any information out there, but references on
variability in general would also be appretiated.
Thanks,
Emma Pomeroy
