Title:
Development of Transport Accessibility in Japan
Summary
(1) Future Scope of Transport Accessibility Improvement Law in Japan
It has been 25 years since the regulation of the Provision of Public
Transport for the Elderly and Disabled was established. On the basis
of this regulation, Transport Accessibility Improvement Law was
enacted in 2000. This law has two aspects: one is the design
standard of transport stations, roads, and vehicles. The other is
planning aspect for basic planning of railway stations and their
vicinities within 1km radius. This basic plan provides several
barrier-free specific plans. The new Transport Accessibility
Improvement Law, which was enacted in 2006, covers transport
facilities, road, architecture, park, parking, and welfare vehicles,
in addition to conventional (traditional) road and transport.
(2) International Airport
We have already constructed Cyobu Airport Building by Universal
Design. That concept is continuation and design for all (Universal
Design). After Cyubu Airport, we are constructing Tokyo Airport and
Sapporo. These Airports will be built much better design than Cyubu.
I report problems and good practice of airport building in Japan.
