I think it is worth considering that there are always good publishers
available for our work, and i think it is worthwhile to consider
'novel' for profit ventures with a bit of skepticism. I have heard
from more than one dean that certain publishers are discounted and
from one, not ken, dean that other publishers actually count against.
Publishing is not merely publishing, publishing is about judgment and
placement. I don't think it is unreasonable to have discussion about
what people consider to be good options and what people might be
particularly wary of. I do appreciate your concern, but I don't see
the merit of silence.
so no... i don't think off list is a good place to discuss the
problems of publishing and the relative merits of venues.
