Hi all,
If I might address two threads; the politics of a film is of course implicit as well as explicit, for example the most interesting
and politically incisive film I've seen at Venice so far this year is Claire Denis' '35 Rhums', a film about the relationship
between a father and his daughter that speaks volumes about the contempory northern european metropolis, a world so large that is
only explanable at the level of the small details of initmate relations. On the question of context, has anyone out there been as
outraged as I am at the practice of texting while 'watching' films. Again at Venice, this practice is rife, in any given screening
dozens of little rectangular ghostly lights will announce the complete indifference of some in the audience both to the film and
to the others in the auditorium. Are we to accept this practice? Am I just an old fogey?
