I agree with Mark, this document demonstrates that a balanced view must
always be taken particularly when dealing with listed buildings, monuments
etc. and as I stated before all parties should be involved in the process,
this would include a conservation expert. I also have a qualification in
Architectural & Building Conservation and so am able to take a balanced
view. Having said that, I would still recommend that a client engages their
own independent conservation expert.....

Hi Helen,

English Heritage provide a useful document regarding assessing the
accessibility of historic and listed buildings (Easy Access to Historic
buildings).

Page 16 gives a description of the relationship between the access audit
and conservation assessment in producing a balanced access plan.

Hi Helen,

Whilst a qualified access consultant is useful, I always arrange for
specialist conservation architects to be involved - they can save a lot
of time when it comes to getting things through EH etc.

Martin

Hi Helen
I doubt that any checklist could cover anything but the basics. The
complex/conflicting issues which might potentially need considering
when making listed buildings, monuments etc accessible can only really
be assessed and evaluated by a qualified access consultant together with
the engagement of all parties concerned including disabled people,
access groups etc.

Subject: Listed Building - Access Audit Checklist

Hi all,

I wondered if anyone knew of an audit checklist which took into account
listed building status?

I'd be very grateful if someone could point me in the right direction -
I've been looking on the Internet for quite some time with no success.

Thanks,

Helen
