medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear Pat
I think you are probably right and it is St Roch - I think my husband must
have photographed it because it looked interesting after I had asked him to
look in the St Theophile chapel - hence the confusion.
I took the description of La Canonica's [everyday name of St Maria Assunta]
west door straight from the guide book but it is meant to read left to right
so the triumphant Agnus Dei is supposed to be bottom right of the arch. I
agree that it is rather hard to make out, although the other animals
mentioned are fairly easily recognized in turn. It may even be incorrect -
we spent ages looking for early Christian mosaics described therein before
deciding they must have been removed from the site for their protection.
best
Rosemary
PS no one has any ideas re 'parrain'?
