medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I can only second this. It helps to log off your e-mail account and change your password periodically. Fortunately my address was only spoofed and no one got the junk but me. It's creepy though to get junk mail from yourself.

Dear Cecilia (and other list-members),
I was alarmed when somebody hijacked my university email address a month or two ago, but was assured by our technical-support guru that there was no need to take desperate measures. He said that spammers do this all the time -- that is, they borrow a real person's address (to get past spam filters) without actually hacking into their computer or compromising their account, and use each address for just a day or two, before moving on to somebody else's. And that is what happened in my case: a day or two in which I received hundreds of returned messages that I hadn't already sent, followed quickly by a return to normality.
So I'd second the suggestion that it's possible-- even likely-- that your spam-sending problem will clear up all by itself.
