medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
From today's "bible" -- google.com
"wie es eigentlich gewesen" occurs 12,400 times (more or less, I guess)
of these, 4,400 add the "ist"
and another 812 add "war"!
So, roughly speaking, some 7,000 go without an "ist" or a "war"
(although I suppose other verbal attempts might also appear!), while
over 5,000 have such an auxiliary. Ain't modern research wonderful, and
also descriptive linguistics. Who cares what Ranke might have said; is
it clear what he intended?
