Hi Karen,
Do you have any plans to run this course in Scotland next year. We have a member of staff I would like to send but there's no rush if you'll be doing a session up here.
Thanks,
Barbara

Subject: [LIS-E-RESOURCES] UK Serials Group, E-Journal Technical Update, London, 14 November 2008
** Apologies for Cross-Posting **
Since its launch in 2004, UKSG's E-Journal Technical Update course has consistently received positive feedback from those who have attended, and it is almost always over-subscribed. If you are considering attending or would like to arrange for one your colleagues to attend, early booking is advised to avoid disappointment.
Developments in online journals continue at a rapid rate and this UKSG course remains one of the most effective ways of updating your knowledge and skills in this area.
Please forward this message to colleagues in your organisation who you feel might benefit from attending this course. Equally, if you work with partner organisations who may not be aware of UKSG and this particular course, please feel free to let them know
UKSG E-Journal Technical Update

The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, London SW1

Course summary
Many of us working directly with e-journals in libraries or as intermediaries or publishers would like to feel more confident in our understanding of the basic technology. Managing e-journals and making them available to end-users is quite different from dealing with print, but many of us have moved from one to the other, picking up expertise informally. Even then, we probably all have gaps in our knowledge and understanding, and the need to gain a proper balanced overview of the technical environment is crucial if we are to do our jobs effectively.
To meet the needs of the groups identified above, the UK Serials Group is continuing to offer its very successful practical one-day E-Journal Technical Update course run by Simon Inger Consulting. Simon Inger has a wealth of experience in technical and business matters concerning electronic journals.
Why you should attend
You should gain a good understanding of the underlying technicalities and feel more confident in your day-to-day work. The course will be invaluable for anyone from a non-technical background working with e-journals. Numbers are limited so that individual advice can be given during the day - the atmosphere will be friendly and supportive. The format will be a mix of taught and demonstration/discussion sessions.
Course level and previous knowledge required
It is recommended that those completely new to dealing with journals should first attend a 'UKSG Serials Practitioners' seminar, a one-day course run in a variety of locations which covers all aspects of the serials industry and includes an introductory technical session.
Learning objectives
* Learn how to overcome common problems in implementing e-journals and
other online resources
* Have the tools to help you decide the best way of setting up access
to e-journals and online resources in your institution/organisation
* Be confident that you understand the technical landscape when
dealing with
e-journal providers.
