medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
From: Herwig Weigl <[log in to unmask]>
>> p. 43, no. 130: “Neuedition [of a letter of Alexander III] durch Ludwig
Falkenstein in Vorbereitung (aus Briefsammlung des Erzbishofs Heinrich von
Reims, Arras, Bibl. Mun., cod. 964…”]
> [...]
>> does anyone happen to know what the status of this "new edition in
preparation" of the letters of Henry might be?
> The website of the Pius-Stiftung still says it is "in preparation" (which
says nothing, of course)
http://www.papsturkunden.gwdg.de/Pius-Stiftung/Publikationen/publikationen.html
> L. Falkenstein, Papsturkunden in Frankreich. Neue Folge 11: Papsturkunden
für die Diözesen Reims und Châlons-en-Champagne (in Vorbereitung).
> Their last report in Deutsches Archiv 2007 says that the work is
proceeding (which says as much).
of course, about as soon as i hit the SEND button i realised that, given
Falkenstein's publications i've seen, it was probably going to be a question
of (at least) an edition of the letters of Alexander III rather than of those
of Archbishop Henry --who is my interest-- and that the "Briefsammlung des
Erzbishofs Heinrich" in Arras 964 was only mentioned because of the
thoroughness of the research, turning up sources in the most obscure corners
of libraries everywhere.
a funny thing, Wishful Thinking.
the volumes of that series, _Papsturkunden in Frankreich_ (now in its second
century of production, btw), which i have seen are quite awe-inspiring (or,
perhaps, intimidating) pieces of scholarship.
that Falkenstein is going to do the volume on Reims is definitely something to
look forward to.
i assume those of the more recently begun _Gallia Pontifica_
http://www.papsturkunden.gwdg.de/Pius-Stiftung/Publikationen/publikationen.html#Gallia
are of the same sort.
but, i've not seen a one of these yet, since they have almost nothing at all
to do with Basketball, and the Bean-Counters* at the Indiana University

library

see no reason to subscribe to it.
besides, the policy here seems to be to "retire" information which only comes
these Antiquated media.
many thanks, Herwig.

Hence, a person excessively concerned with accounts or figures."

gut-scrimping bean-counters."
