Dear all,
The W3C POWDER Working Group has published a suite of documents
for Last Call review by 14 September 2008.
One of the issues on which they particularly seek feedback is on
whether there are any problems with defining wdrs:issuedby as a a
subproperty of both foaf:maker and dcterms:creator [1]:
The wdrs:issuedby property (line 11) is a sub-property
of both foaf:maker and dcterms:creator, implying that
its range is the intersection of those vocabularies'
Agent classes. The consequence is that the object
of wdrs:issuedby can be either an instance of the
dcterms:Agent class or foaf:Agent class but only those
classes (or sub-classes thereof). For the avoidance of
doubt: it is the POWDER document that is issuedby the
Agent not the resources that the POWDER document describes.
As I understand it, "The purpose of the Protocol for Web
Description Resources (POWDER) is to provide a means for
individuals or organizations to describe a group of resources
through the publication of machine-readable metadata". In that
context, wdrs:issuedby is used in a mandatory attribution
element and "points to a description" of the individual or
entity that created the POWDER document.
foaf:maker is defined as follows:
URI: http://xmlns.com/foaf/0.1/maker
Definition: An agent that made this thing.
rdf:type http://www.w3.org/2002/07/owl#ObjectProperty
rdfs:domain http://www.w3.org/2002/07/owl#Thing
rdfs:range http://xmlns.com/foaf/0.1/Agent
Does anyone see problems with this from a DCMI metadata terms
point of view?
Tom
