Well, you're right.
But I guess you're talking about the attitudes we as designers would expect.
If it's not plain visual, then why do the greater deal of graphic objects
seem to put their focuses exclusively on it?
Magazines or books are visually different from each others, but from what I
observe they allow quite the same physical experience.
Can we explore it in ways to better reach the emotions you referred?
I agree with you about lifestyles. The question is how do we include it in
design research? What are the risks and is it necessary?
