I am a little puzzled, perhaps you have mistaken my post? I do not
suggest that 'the problem solving literature ha[s] an exclusive or
restrictive emphasis on negative aspects'. I do suggest that design
might also exist within/emerge from experiences such as that which I
described as serendipity in my story of the housewife from Warren.
Interpreting your post, I might label this experience as 'eustress'
(pleasurable). However, I argue that by describing the design space
as problem-solving might position it within the binary of 'either-or'
(negative distress or positive eustress) that you explained from your
reading of the literature, and this works to limit the possible ways
in which what happens (what gets experienced) might be conceptualised
as design. We each have our own stories for this I suspect.
