Hi William,
I believe that inclusive design is of great interest of many memebers of this list. However, the issue it is not brought to the list often. Using the philosophy of inclusive design to allow people with special needs to play instruments sounds good. Inclusive design is experiencing its infancy with regard research as design as a whole as well. There are many people doing robust and sound research around inclusive design and there are very good conferences that are almost mandatory for those interested in doing research around th theme.
As you may know there is a biennial conference called "Include" that is organized by the Helen Hemlyn Centre and Royal College of Arts. The Include Programme was founded and and has been hosted by the Helen Hamlyn Centre at the Royal College of Art and has been considered by many researchers as the second most important event in the area in the world. The largest conference about design and inclusion is the “Designing for the 21st Century” that is also in its fifth edition. This conference is hosted and organized by “Adaptive Environments”, a 25 year old NGO that is based in the USA. According to the host, this conference is sponsored by the NEC Foundation of America, the United Nations Global Programme on Disability and the Universal Design Consortium from Japan. Each edition takes place in a different country. The first was in USA, the second in Japan, a third in Brazil, the fourth edition was in Japan again and the next one will take place in Canada.
I have great interest in inclusive design and assistive technology. My research for the PhD is all about inclusive design and user emotions and satisfaction.
I´m looking forward to exchange information around the topic.
