Hey JoAnn,
did you see this session? Sounds pretty interesting.....
And do you know Eric Goergen? He is working on this issue of deformation and metamorphism too, but from the metamorphism side. I don't know why I didn't think of him earlier. He is just finishing his PhD at Minnesota. He is working with Donna Whitney. Did you meet him at the EBSD conference?
best,
Sven

Subject: AGU 2008 session: Toward Quantifying the Relationships Between Deformation, Rock and Mineral Microstructure, Geochemistry and Reaction (MR11)
Dear all,
Please consider submitting an abstract to the following session planned
for the AGU Fall Meeting in San Francisco, 15th-19th December 2008.
MR11: Toward Quantifying the Relationships Between Deformation, Rock and
Mineral Microstructure, Geochemistry and Reaction
Session Description:
Recent advances in analytical, experimental and modeling techniques have
permitted detailed examination of the relationships between chemical and
physical processes that occur in rocks and minerals deep in the crust
and mantle. The links between rock and mineral microstructure, their
geochemistry and associated reactions have significant implications for
the material properties of rocks, such as bulk rheology and strain
localization, seismic and electrical properties, as well as for
geological processes on a larger scale, such as fluid flow, shear zone
development, trace element budgets, and defining the PTt evolution of
rocks. This session aims to bring together a broad range of researchers
to promote discussion on the current state of understanding of the
interaction between micro-scale physical and chemical processes in rocks
and minerals from the crust and mantle. Submissions are welcome from
experimental, field-based, analytical and modeling approaches.
