Summer in Arcadia
This year CILIP in London heads to Arcadia for its Summer Outing on 12
August.
Arcadia was Henry VIII's name for the palaces and parks between Richmond
and Hampton Court and is being revived.
Our destination is Ham House - Europe's most complete survival of
17th-century fashion and power. Built in 1610, the house has changed
little since the 17th century.
Ham House contains a fascinating library with an interesting and complex
history. We are very fortunate to have the library's cataloguer
available to give us a presentation on the library and its contents -
with, of course, a chance to see them. There will also be a talk on the
building itself.
In addition, you will have plenty of time to explore the house and its
gardens (all the plants were introduced before 1700!) and to take tea in
the Orangery.
Ham House is easily reached from Richmond: the visit will begin at about
2pm and end with the usual networking amongst suitable refreshments.
Do join us.
Please register for the visit before 4 August by emailing
[log in to unmask] and indicate whether you are a National Trust member.
