medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
It seems to me Azariah could be
from Hebrew pointed forms:
(1) Azarî(y)âh, Rochelles original
suggestion, (2) Azaryâh, a suggestion
I made, (3) Azarîyâh, V Kerry Inman's
suggestion, but also (4) Azzarîyâh, (5)
Azzaryâh, (6) Azzarî(y)âh. There are
no attested forms of this name however
except (2). There is perhaps an argument
against the possibility that the zayin too
could have dagesh forte ? I can't think
what it is, which doesn't mean anything.
