medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Limiting discussion of any saint to a day reserved for her/him in some sanctoral calendar would be a foolish consistency. That said, what evidence is there that the Vibiana venerated in Los Angeles (and celebrated there on 1. September) is, as Marjorie Schulenburg implies in her reference to festal dates, identical to the Bibiana entered in the Roman Martyrology under 2. December? According to deacon Eric here:

"Her feast is celebrated only by us here in Los Angeles". The Bibiana of 2. December is still celebrated at her church in Rome and in several other Italian dioceses. There's no indication in the main set (v. 1-12) of the _Bibliotheca Sanctorum_ that that saint and the one in Los Angeles (whom it does not discuss) are one and the same.
Has the purported blood said to have been found in a vial near V.'s tomb been tested to see whether any of it _is_ blood?
Best,
John Dillon
