From c. 1154 until c.1157 the abbot of the new Cistercian abbey of Buzay
(Busey, Buse') in Nantes, Brittany was called ADAM. His successor was called
DAVID. For part of the time at least the prior was called DANIEL. (ADAM's
predecessor was a PETER.)
[DANIEL is actually a very common name in Brittany probably because it was
conflated with the Celtic name Deniol. Many of the Lords of PONTCHATEAU are
called DANIEL.]
In 1157 there is a monk called ABRAHAM in a list of witnesses.
All these come from the Cartulary of Buzay which is unpublished but was
transcribed / edited as a PhD thesis in 1976 by J-L Sarrazin.
I have also found some SOLOMONs in Brittany.

Greetings learned ones!
I´m trying to confirm an impression, and would appreciate input from
the various specialist on this list.
The impression is that 'Abraham' as a religious (or given) name is not
particularly common in the Latin church
(much more so in the east, including Egypt and the early hermits.) I´m
specifically interested in the 11th-12th centuries.
Are there any eminent ecclesiastics (or others) named Abraham at this time?
Thanks in advance,
Meg
