INteresting definition, Eduardo,
I apologise for not having read all the 41 messages on this theme, perhaps what I'm about to say has already been said. But I would like to point out John Eskett ("Toothpicks and Logos")observation about the fact that design could be a verb, or a noun and as such it may have many different meanings, including the reference to the fact that design is a core activity of human species. At this stage (and now this is my modest thought) defining design is like defining things like "making" or "thinking", which are also core capabilities of human species. This does not mean that design or making or thinking cannot be defined, but I understand that those who tried (for example Marting Heidegger) could not get any definition shorter than a 30 pages essay.
Under 30 pages any definition could be right, as far as it concerns a specific perspective and interpretation of the term.

Subject: Re: A simple definition of 'Design'?
Hi all,
My humble contribution:
To Design is the necessary and sufficient depiction of (a) feasible thing(s)
to be.
In consequence Design is the evidence in things of their previous depiction.
Cheers,
Eduardo
PS: Deconstruction of the sign is almost as delirious as Zuccari definition
of Disegno as the sign of God in us (Di – God, Segno – sign) ZUCCARI,

Zuccaro, Divisa in due Libri, Torino, 1607.
