You have probably seen the call for nominations for the PSA Awards. As a
general rule, the vast majority of nominations and awards are for men. I
therefore ask anyone that can think of worthy women nominees in any
category to make the effort of nominating them, as I think it is important
to show that women also make a vital contribution to politics! Nomination
details are below. I would be grateful if people could also let me know
of any women nominees so that I can forward good suggestions to the list -
if enough of us nominate women, they can't keep giving the bulk of prizes
to men! (Last year we also tried to co-ordinate our efforts and one of
our nominees, Joni Lovenduski, was a very worthy winner of the Special
Recognition for Political Studies award).

POLITICAL STUDIES ASSOCIATION AWARDS 2008
Nominations Deadline: 23 May 2008
The Political Studies Association’s annual awards lunch is to be staged at
the Institute of Directors, London, on 25 November 2008, to recognise the
achievements of academics, journalists and other contributors to the study
and conduct of politics.
The 2007 ceremony was attended by a host of distinguished journalists and
academics as well as members of the PSA. Winners present included Alex
Salmond (Politician of the Year), Paddy Ashdown (Lifetime Achievement in
Politics), Shami Chakrabarti and Angus MacNeil (Setting the Political
Agenda), Nick Robinson (Political Journalist of the Year), John Denham
(Parliamentarian of the Year), and a host of other important figures from
the fields of political science, political journalism and parliamentary
politics. The ceremony received widespread coverage for the PSA in both
the national and local media.
A jury of senior academics, accompanied by journalists and politicians, is
being assembled to deliberate on this year’s prizes. To assist these
deliberations, nominations are invited for each of the award categories
listed below. Your nominations for any or all categories need to be
submitted by email to the jury secretary, Jack Arthurs at

entered in a draw for a free place at the awards ceremony.

2. Lifetime Achievement in Politics
3. Parliamentarian of the Year
4. Political Journalist of the Year
5. Political Broadcaster/Programme of the Year
6. Political Publication of the Year
7. Political Studies Communication Award
8. Best Political Satire
9. Setting the Political Agenda Award
10. Sir Isaiah Berlin Prize for Lifetime Contribution to Political Studies
11. Special Recognition Award (to the discipline of Politics)
The Jury will meet in June 2008.
