medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

> I'm obviously not explaining myself well enough.
whatever.
>Forget "frames".
easy enough to do.
Done.
>The simplest arrangement is horizontal bars embedded in the tracery or
spanning the width of the window.
sorry, these are slow to load, but it looks like only the round horizontal
bars could be embedded "in the tracery" here:

http://snapageno.free.fr/Churches/Chartres/Bay9/chtvb21.htm
(MAGNIFICENT photos, are they not, btw??)
the flat bars do not extend all the way to the stone jambs --there is no
"tracery" in the lower lancets in 13th c. Chartres and only "plate" tracery in
the upper ones.
>For wide windows, you need vertical bars as well.
only one "vertical" bar in the lancet above; but a whole network of
circular/semi-circular ones.
> These can be combined to form an armature of more complex shapes. The leaded
panels are attached to these.
>Your windows obviously have quick-release fittings,
the Chartres windows have been taken out and put back in so many times,
there's no telling whether the present "fittings" are anything like the
original ones.
Jim?
>but wires or flaps of lead are more usual to attach the panels to the
ferramenta.
