Postdoctoral positions are available at the Dept of Earth Science,
University of California Santa Barbara, http://www.geol.ucsb.edu/, to
pursue research on topics such as ultrahigh-pressure tectonics, seismic
anisotropy and deformation of the lower crust, and subduction-zone
seismicity and phase transformations, using petrology, structural geology,
and/or geochronology.
The Dept has a broad range of analytical and computational facilitieswell
supported by development engineersincluding
* a Cameca SX50 electron microprobe with 5 wavelength-dispersive
spectrometers
* an MAP 216 mass spectrometer for 40Ar/39Ar geochronology
* a MAT-261 mass spectrometer for heavy isotopes
* an FEI Q400 FEG scanning electron microscope with an HKL electron-
backscatter diffraction facility, a CL detector, and an energy-dispersive
analyzer
* a Nu Instruments AttoM single-collector ICP (September, 2008)
* a Nu Instruments Plasma HR multi-collector ICP (September, 2008)
* a Photon Machines femtosecond laser (September, 2008)
