The only work for Cleope's wedding (actually the departure for her marriage) we
know is Du Fay's motet 'Vasilissa, ergo gaude', written for Cleofe. I have these
recordings:
Guillaume Dufay, O gemma lux, Huelgas-Ensemble, dir. Paul van Nevel (Harmonia
Mundi HMC 901700)
Guillaume Dufay, Sacred music from Bologna Q15, The Clerks' Group, dir. Edward
Wickham (Signum Records, SIGCD023)
The Fall of Constantinople, Capella Romana, dir. Alexander Lingas (Cappella
Romama CR402-CD; see www.cappellaromana.org)
The last recording gives a rather Byzantine slant on the performance, which is a
bit startling for those accustomed to the English choral sound, but highly
interesting (normally Alex records Byzantine music).
There are problems with the text of this motet: see Leofranc Holford-Strevens,
'Du Fay the Poet? Problems in the Texts of his Motets', Early Music History, 16
(1997), 97-165 at 102-6.
Du Fay also wrote a motet on St Andrew, this time with an Italian text,
'Apostolo glorioso', which may have been performed, with Du Fay in attendance,
in Patras; Cleofe's brother Pandolfo Malatesta had been appointed Archbishop of
Patras on 10 May 1424 (on this text see Holford-Strevens, 138-40). Recordings
are:
The Fall of Constantinople, as above (this also include Du Fay's Lament on the
fall of Constantinople)
Guillaume Du Fay, Motets, Hymns, Chansons, Sanctus papale, Blue Heron, dir.
Scotto Metcalfe (BHCD 1001; www.blueheronchoir.org)
Dufay, O gemma lux, as above
Guillaume Dufay, Music for St James the Greater, The Binchois Consort, dir.
Andrew Kirkman (Hyperion CDA66997)
Du Fay's chanson 'Resvellies vous' was written for Carlo's wedding. I haven't a
recording, but I'm sure there are some; try Googling the text.
