The point of open-access repositories is that publications are deposited
in their raw, as published form (anything else devalues them) and they
just become part of the great BOAI hereafter.
Of course there is nothing to stop anybody compiling their own index to
all this stuff, a bit like a super version of those lists that people
post on Amazon - "my 1000 most influential papers on wicked problems"
etc etc. But that's added value, not the core value.
What is the core value for me? It's ensuring that resources are readily
available for searches and downloads and not lost.
