Dear Prof. Rust,
I believe I got a good copy of the 03 issue of 1995. I can scan the papers for others to share... Let me know if I should...

Hello,
Some of you may remember a scholarly journal called co-design that was
produced by Barry Dagger and David Walker in the mid-1990s. It was only
produced for a short while but it was a very ambitious project, each
issue contains a large and diverse collection of material on a chosen
theme. (it has no connection with the more recent journal of the same
name edited by Steven Scrivener)
The journal has not been produced for some time, and it is only
available in a small number of libraries (my university library threw
their copies out because they assumed such a small set of journals was
not of interest, despite being on many reading lists) so I have taken
the liberty of scanning one of the issues I have and making it available
on a website. If there is enough interest I will try to find the time to
archive some more. It is at
http://codesignarchive.designinquiry.wikispaces.net/
This is a particularly interesting issue as it dealt with design and
information technology in 1995, a very different time from now when we
really did not know how IT would affect us. It includes papers on
research supervision by email (Alan Dyer), electronic meetings (David
Walker) and the concept of a universal encyclopaedia (H.G.Wells). It
also has some items of historic interest to our community including
Darren Newbury's first exposition of the Birmingham Research Training
Initiative that he set up that year, and an account of Zeke Conran's
early career (which seems to have taken place several decades after his
later career).
Let me know if you find it interesting, and if you have any copies of
co-design and would not mind them being cut up for the greater good I'd
be pleased to hear from you. I am particularly keen to find a copy of
issue 2 which contains Bruce Archer's excellent paper on "The Nature of
Research"
There is a website at http://www.co-design.co.uk/ which contains a
limited range of material from the institution of engineering designers
including an index of the published issues of co-design and the content
of one issue reformatted for the web. As this does not appear to have
been updated for several years I assume it is not a live project.
best wishes from Sheffield
Chris
