The Office of NIH History invites applications for the position of Research
Historian -- term limited position (five year maximum).
The successful applicant will be expected to undertake research on
historical aspects of post-WWII biomedical research sponsored by NIH and on
the NIH itself. Specific research topics are to be selected by the Research
Historian, subject to approval of the director of the Office. His or her
primary administrative responsibilities will be to develop the Office’s
virtual presence, including its website. The Office anticipates that
administrative tasks will consume no more than 30% of the time, with the
balance being free for historical inquiry.
Eligibility: Open to U.S. citizens and non-U.S. citizens. Applicants should
possess a Ph.D. degree (or corresponding qualification) in history, history
of medicine, science and/or technology, STS, or the sociology or
anthropology of science or medicine. Salary range is on a schedule
dependent on post-doctoral experience see:
http://www.training.nih.gov/stipends.asp. Social security taxes not
deducted from salary; health benefits are provided. Appointments shall
begin not earlier than October 1, 2008 by mutual agreement.

that describes their previous and current research interests and the
projects they envisage undertaking during the next several years. Submit the
