medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
From: John Dillon <[log in to unmask]>
> Today (14. April) is the feast day of:
> 3) Bernard of Tiron (d. 1117).
>In 1113 or 1114 he moved the nascent abbey, with a new dedication to the Holy
Trinity, to its present site on the property of a dependency of the cathedral
chapter of Chartres at today's Tiron-Gardais (Eure-et-Loire).
>A brief, French-language guide to the abbey, with views of its rebuilt
church, is accessible here (click on 'Visite guidée'):

not a lot on the much-knocked-about church there.
but, buried on the "Glossaire et bibliographie" subpage are some remarkably
mediocre .jpgs:
a view of the now-bouchéed early 12th c. windows of the facade

near the (13th c.) portal below is a rather nice early 13th c. head, if it's
not totally eroded away by now.
a 12th c. Limoge enamelled crozier (now in the Chartres museum)

a bit of the choir stalls (said, on this obviously unreliable site, to be 13th
c.)

and the street sign for the "Rue de Tiron" (Paris, said to be "VIe arr." but,
in view of what's written on it, perhaps not)

which is, in any case, probably not really middlevil.
the "Bibliographie" is not entirely worthless, though seems to lack the
essential
