Colleagues may be interested to read the final report and related
publications from the Arts and Humanities Research Council funded
research project, 'The right 'man' for the job? The role of empathy in
community librarianship'. The research was undertaken between 2006-8 by
staff from CPLIS, the Centre for the Public Library and Information in
Society at Sheffield University, and has used a wide range of methods to
investigate public library staff attitudes towards social inclusion
policy and disadvantaged groups in society.
All completed documents are now free to download from the project
website, at
http://www.shef.ac.uk/is/research/centres/cplis/research/rightman.html,
and further publications will be available shortly.
Thanks again to all colleagues who kindly gave their time to complete
the survey, to take part in interviews/focus groups, and to contribute
to our research workshop in October 2007. Your support is greatly
appreciated.
